    kicked some serious ass.

    ledger was transcendent.

the movie was climaxing the last 100 minutes, it seemed.

not sure if the academy will nominate work from this genre or not -- but this would be the one. if the box office numbers continue, they may have no choice but to put it up for best pic. haven't yet seen wall-e, but many say it could also move past being animated and compete for best pic.

that was a thrill ride with a-level performances by everyone. ledger's work was special. he made nicholson's joker look soft.

this is the new standard for films of this genre.

    wow.

The movie was Awesome! I'll probably see it again! I figured they were hyping up Ledger's Joker cause of his death and i thought i would be disappointed but man, I thought he was excellent!!

anybody else wait around after the movie and watched the credits? :smartass:

speaking of Nicholson, in retrospect I think had that style of Batman series been able to be dark, Nicholson would've eaten Ledger up. To me, Nicholson was the best part of the entire early series and was only held back by the brightness and sillyness of what they were portraying.

I don't really think the first Batman is light or silly. It is very comic bookish, but it was a very dark movie. You may get away with silly, but there is nothing bright in that movie.

I think the original Batman wasn't going for gritty. It is still a great movie. I like Michael Keaton's batman better than Bale's. Nicholson was great as the Joker. I think the Batman series just got tarnished very quickly with Batman II.

"Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?" is still the best line from the series. But, The Dark Knight was great, ledger was fantastic. I just wish they could have found someone not ugly to take Katie Holmes' part.

Jack's joker was good. But at its heart, that character was just a gangster.

Ledger's charachter was demonic. His motive was to debase society, anarchy.

I didn't mind Burton's dark surrealism of the first movies. Once it became a cartoon, the conflict went out the window. Nobody fucking afraid of Jim Carrey in tights.

I wonder where the series is going now, if it goes on, with Ledger's death. The villians drive these movies, and this "realism" approach to the genre puts some limits on what you can do.

No kidding - I went last night and that was the only thing I was disappointed in. Why are they fighting over this unattractive bitch (Maggie Gyllenhaal)? I thought several times about how much cocaine she would be able to get up those giant nostrils.

I really went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how good the movie was. I never was a Ledger fan until this movie and now it makes me sad that he died.
