    Need a little help here

I have my old computer hard drive - computer is fried but hard drive is fine. I have connected the hard drive to my lap top so I can transfer all the old files (music, pictures, documents etc.)

The problem is I can't access my old XP User files that had passwords - which are the main folders where most of the data I want is stored.

How can I get into those folders?

If you're on a machine where you're the administrator, just right-click on a folder you don't have access to on the 2nd hard drive from the failed machine, do the security tab, and choose Take Ownership from deep in there. I don't have an XP machine handy to screenshot it, but that basically let's your ID become the security owner of those files and then you can read them.

used one of these. Works pretty slick.

Got it from the IT guy here at work.

It was too late last night when I read Larry's link. The IT guy at work here today did what bootay suggested. He got ownership rights to it. Looked good while I was signed on as him but I still can't access it because I don't have admin rights at work.

I'm gonna do the same thing when I get home tonight.

well I didn't pay anything for it - but I think the company paid under $40 for it.

It does light up all pretty and blue on the bottom when turned on.

this is important and oftentimes overlooked. you should see the non-lighting devices struggle to get those files back under control. wossa, your tech guy knows his stuff. :glasses2:
