kinda think it's arrogant on the part of the niners to act like the twc is their home turf. they couldn't even sell out halton (on their campus) for the xavier game last year. and that was the #13 team in the nation. i guarantee that if unc played the #13 team at tw, they would sell the place out. regardless of whether it's bandwagon fans or not, money is money.

I was going off of last year's arrangement with WF and UM (do have a scant bit of knowledge about it, and it was a lucrative deal for Charlotte, minus the arena rental fee).

I would assume (and it's only an assumption) that Chapel Hill would pay the rental fee and give Charlotte an allotment of tickets (with which to sell or give away), but that Roy's bunch would sell the rest and pocket the cash, minus the rental fee (which is quite substantial). There would typically not be a "revenue split" in these cases, but there would be a payout for lack of a return money game, as HP said.

I think Chapel Hill would not have to pay that if Charlotte handled the tickets, but in this case, the Tarheels would want to be able to give the tickets to as many donors as they wanted (beyond a standard allotment), without having to go through Charlotte to get them.

It would be hard to just split the cost of rental and split the tickets, as that is not the way it's usually done. That would make it a neutral site game, and the NCAA would not like that for a game like this (not to mention that it messes up the RPI).

The deal as was offered makes sense, financially, from Chapel Hill's standpoint. I don't argue that point. I just think some Charlotte fans were too fixated on the color of the jersey and not the financial aspects, seeing as the University is always trying to draw a crowd and capitalize on it. This is mostly my own opinion and is without any insider stuff in this particular case. I was not aware of a potential game like this until I saw it here.

Everybody remember this next time a Niner fan whines about lack of money coming in.

So, on top of that payout, our RPI would rise regardless of a win or loss, with it being a tough "road" game. Just keep scheduling Hofstra and Monmouth, Bobby.

So, the arrangements with WF and UM were similar as it relates to the control of tix distribution or revenue?

Not similar to the apparent Chapel Hill deal (again, I had no knowledge of it until I saw it here, so that shows you how much of an insider I really am), but similar to each other.

Both of those games resulted in nice paydays for Charlotte (again, minus the rental fee for what was then Bobcats Arena) and a downtown (or uptown or Center City, or whatever you want to call it) game should be in Charlotte's plans every year, if they can land a good enough opponent. Chapel Hill would be a good enough opponent, but the apparent proposal talked about here would not be in line (ticket arrangement-wise) with the games there against WF and UM from the 2007-08 season. Chapel Hill's control of the tickets would take a large chunk of the profits out of the coffers of Charlotte, if the deal discussed here was the real thing.

Think about it... if Charlotte has 15,000 (or even just 10,000) tickets to sell for that game, and makes $10 per ticket in profit (ballpark figure), that's a nice little payday versus a lesser opponent in a moderately-attended game in Halton Arena.

Did you prefer the Dean Smith years where he just didn't play in-state schools because 'you can't play them all?'
