Moving Good Posts

I don't understand why we cannot have a discussion about the nature of the universe without it being moved to the Rubber Room. You should just rename this forum "Intolerant Christians Only" and stop pretending to be impartial.

Religion = "explanations concerning the nature of the Universe"
Spirituality = "feelings of connectedness and belonging to a larger natural structure"

Discussing quantum mechanics, even heatedly, falls directly into those categories.

 

i think people wold rather this be a place to explore their spirituality and deepen their religious beliefs. i don't think they want to be challenged on their fundamental belief in a god (or gods).

kind of like a fantasy football forum -- they are there to talk about trades, projected lineups and lament over studs that they benched. they don't want someone constantly belittling them for playing the game.

that's what i think.




ps -- i'm not saying that religion = fantasy.

Vito is right...we let a good debate boil down to a pissing match. I think the debate was fine, but not the pissing match.

 

i'm not saying it's a rule. i'm just saying that it was my impression of what people wanted the forum to be.

 

I thought you and I were doing pretty good. I can tone myself down a bit. All it takes is a warning. Jesus Christ people, we are guys. WE HAVE TESTOSTERONE. It is par for the course. Let the players play. It is not like any of us are pulling innocent people out of the stands and injuring them. Everyone in that thread is a willing participant.

 

i didn't keep reading after i saw it degenerate. maybe i missed out on something worthwhile, but it got lost in the noise for me.

i want people to talk, to share, to listen and to learn. i have a fundamental belief that we have more in common than we know and the only way we will understand that is to continue to have a civil dialogue. i must say, though, that it doesn't always start out civil. sometimes the two sides have to empty their silos and let the dust settle before the common ground can be seen.

i never want people to just STOP engaging in productive discussion, though. even ridiculous talk and seemingly nonsensical posts is favored over lurking and inactivity.

 

And that is why I left the thread intact, just moved it to another forum. I'm not big into editing posts or censoring folks.

The rules of the forum are pretty simple and laid out in the OP in the "No Sniping Zone" thread.

 

I hear you. I thought GH and I were making progress. Maybe we could have restrained ourselves a bit, because we were actually beginning to touch on valid points, but GODDAMN (sorry Chrisitians) it feels good to call him a dumbass.

 

How about engaging in a productive discussion rather than trying to get under the skin of those that oppose your beliefs? He aren't toys here for you to play with you pompous ass.
