Outlaws would be a good name for an Oklahoma team. I bet they would sell a lot of merchandise and show up in a lot of rap videos....

Just my opinion but I'd rather see a good AAA team in downtown Charlotte than a MLB team. There probably isn't a better $$$ deal in sports today than tickets to watch minor league baseball. Any pro league is a major expense now to take a family of 3-4 to.

In city and market size, Charlotte compares to many of the small market teams.

I think the smallest 3 team market is Tampa Bay (NHL/MLB/NFL) at 1.8 million . . .What is our metro population? I think we need to get this big before we could seriously look at MLB here in the QC . . .

The guy who is launching the lawsuit against the city & county concerning the landswap deal to build the Knights ballpark Uptown (Jerry Reese?): I like his idea of privately building a MLB Ballpark Uptown in the SE corner of Uptown loop (where Marshall Park is right now) along with some residental/commerical projects. I think when MLB comes to town, I think this will be the way to get it built. I really don't see the public swallowing a $300-400 million bill to build a 35,000 seat ballpark . . . The only problem I see with his plan is that there are no teams out there looking to move now. I think the Marlins & Rays will get their new ballparks built (the ex Eagles owner lawsuit against the city notwithstanding and assuming the folks of St. Pete approve the Rays new ballpark via a referendum later on this year). Why build a ballpark which could end up as a white elephant for several years (see Tropicana Field) until we did get a team via expansion (which I think will be the right time to get a team, which will occur in about 10 years I think).

Wiki says Tampa Bay is about 2.7 million people.

    Charlotte is about 2.1

They're usually at the bottom of the league in terms of attendance. This year is a little better.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . . .

Is this market strong enough to support 3 pro teams? Compared to Tampa Bay, I think we have more Fortune 500 firms based here vs. them . . . But again I ask, how many skyboxes/clubseats can we expect Duke/Wachovia/BoA to buy in this market? Especially right now with the way the economy is and banks are cutting back, could the area's 2nd tier firms make up the slack ? ? ?
