It is an odd combo. He's mainly a metal guy...and I mean HEAVY stuff like Danzig, Slayer, and Mayhem. But he's also done Shakira, Johnny Cash, and Justin Timberlake...:smash:

or that's what you're familiar with, so you know him as a metal guy. He was a DJ and worked in art-punk bands. That's not very metal.

As long as he doesn't have Bobby Crawford rap, or make them cover some Morrissey song as a debut single, it'll be fine. Let them do what they do.

    Danzig heavy...LOL

He's done pretty much everything but when I looked at the there's nothing really impressive about the albums. The biggest thing he gets credit for is bringing back Cash, but it's Cash for God's sake.

But he is very highly regarded and that's whats impressive.

Check him out on Wiki...he IS mainly a metal guy. His current BIG project is the new Metallica album. He HAS done a TON of things. Just saying he's mainly metal.

Remove all the Slayer albums and he's not really. He's done alot of albums for a few Metal bands but is much more varied than that. Plus, Slayer sucks.

Maybe not "metal bands", but he's done a ton of heavier bands...

Chilli Peppers (admittedly, not that heavy)
    Slayer
    Danzig
    Wolfsbane
    Mayhem
    Linkin Park
    Audioslave
    System of a Down
    Rage Against the Machine
    Metallica
    American Head Charge
    Smashing Pumpkins
    AC/DC
    Trouble
    Masters of Reality
    The Cult

And yes...most of those bands SUCK.

Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Public Enemy, LL Cool J...co founded def jam records. Guy does a lot more than metal.

IMO the Slayer albums he produced are their best sounding ones.

I guess I just don't see most of those has heavy. Smashing Pumpkins, Cult, AC/DC, Chilli Peppers, are pretty much just radio rock n' roll to me. Metallica hasn't been heavy since before And Justice for All. I admit to never having heard of several of them.
