Tomatos - Get Rid of Those Black Spots

Have you ever tried growing tomatos in your back yard only to be disappointed by mysterious black spots on them? Well there is an easy natural remedy for this. The black spots appear because of a lack of calcuim in the soil. Lots of stores will offer a variety of chemicals to spray on your plants but this is not necessary.

This is what you do. The next time you are at the grocery store pick up a box of powdered milk mix. Simple sprinkle this on the dirt near the root of your plant and water. Powdered milk will give your plants all the calcium your tomatos need to be free of those black spots.

Get an owl. We have one that lives in the area. Every few days it spends time in the trees in the back yard. The squirrels have almost disappeared.

More likely than not it is a lack of water to deliver what calcium you have and not the amount of calcium in the soil. Also, plum style tomatoes tend to have a much bigger problem with it.

It's hard to find a good owl these days.

Anyhow, some folks believe fake owls and snakes will keep squirrels and birds away. They don't.
    Try a scarecrow, maybe.:clapclap:

    Awesome, thanks for that tip.
Anyway, I've gotten about a dozen tomaotes out of my garden, lots of cucumbers, zuchinni, yellow squash and corn can be picked tonight for dinner. First two anyway.
    We've been eating well lately.

I'm at the point where I'm getting tired of squash. I've been eating it for about a month. Got more corn than I know what to do with. The 4-5 inches of rain in a week made a tremendous difference. I didn't know if it would have any size or not, but it turned out ok. I'm fighting the rabbits for my tomatoes - they're winning. I guess I'll put up a temporary wire fence around the plants to keep them out.

Here's a pic of an ear of corn that was right in the middle of the garden. I was almost scared to touch it. Damn thing looks cancerous. I have no idea what you'd call this disease.
