I'm positive numbers are recycled. My wife kept getting calls from a collection agency on her cell phone. Turns out the calls were for the person that previously had that phone number. Took forever to get those idiots to stop calling.

When I got my current line with verizon along with a new phone, I also figured it would come with new number. The voice mail greeting was actually some woman's message. The password wasn't even reset so I had to call them to allow me to get in my own damn voice mail account to change it. She even had numerous messages still on there. They did a horrible job cleaning that number, as it was all on their side, the phone was new and had nothing on it.

I still get random fucking people calling me for that bitch. So yes, numbers are recycled.

    Well, I'll be damned.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure that my number's not recycled because I've had it for many, many years, way before cell phones even came on the scene.

I got a "secret" business security phone number for SunCom. I'll give them a call, see what kind of bullshit, prepared answers they've got for me.

I called Embarq, they no longer have a record of my number as being active or inactive. Both Embarq and SunCom claim cluelessness as to how such a thing could happen. Hackers, maybe?

Somebody out there could still be waiting for a response from 911. tsk

I can remember getting a call from an 911 operator once on my cordless phone. It was calling 911 and hanging up and I didn't even know it. They said that can happen with a low battery or if it was laying to close to the computer or some other electronic device that could interfer.

Don't know if thats something that still happens or not.........or if it can happen with a cell phone.........its just a thought.

I'm sure that the cell wasn't near a computer for one of those calls. Could've been a low battery tho.

Anyhow, thanks, those are precautions easily taken.
