I think Russia pulls it out today. They have a lot of momentum going into the match and Spain is known for choking in big games. Of course Spain beat Russia 4-1 in group play so who the fuck knows!

VP is right on the specifics in question. The rule leaves it to the officials to be subjective on what constitutes endangerment. Instructions to the officials supplements the interpretation of the rule, but is not a rule in and of itself.

Collin has a good arguement that is flawed in its application to the initial debate, which VP wins by a "small" margin.

PARIS, March 11: FIFA on Tuesday told coaches and referees that all tackles from behind should be punished with a red card at the World Cup finals.

``All tackling from behind is considered to endanger the physical integrity of the opponent, so no tackling from behind will be tolerated by Fifa,'' the world body's general secretary Sepp Blatter said.

``Officially from July 1, but effectively from the kick-off of the World Cup finals on June 10, all tackles from behind will be sanctioned by a red card everywhere on the field of play,'' he told a news conference at the end of Fifa's World Cup workshop with the 32 finalists.

The international football association board, the game's law making body, passed an amendment to Law 12 on Fouls and Misconduct at a meeting last month.

The amendment designates the tackle from behind as serious foul play and therefore a sending-off offence. However, referees at the workshop wondered whether the tackle had physically to endanger a player for the tackler to be sent off. Blatter told referees that all tackles from behind should receive red cards.

``It's impossible for the referee to see if a tackle is dangerous or not because all tackles from behind put in danger the physical integrity of the opponent,'' he said.

Seriously, what fucking part of that is difficult to understand? FIFA has said that it is specifically NOT up to referee discretion. It is ALWAYS supposed to be a red card when you tackle someone from behind. The god damned president of FIFA specifically said so. Meanwhile
vpkozel The Soccer Expert™ lied about it never being implemented even though I provided multiple articles proving that it had. Good lord. The lengths some people will go to in order to disagree with me just because they're bitter towards me about past arguments is insane. I will never understand the minds of people who sincerely don't give a flying damn about facts or the truth.

that's kinda where i'm at right now. that's why i've said it's semantics. you could say both were right in their own way. but, i don't know, WHY would i ask to bring up pictures?? apparently fifa thinks their refs are infantile dumbasses because they put the pictures in there for the refs to see. strange isn't it.

collin, how many times have you humiliated me?

we've really only had one big argument, and that was the dumbest argument ever. it wasn't fact, but i think we all know that his eye was out.

Where you're at right now is where you've been your whole life, a know-nothing coward who lacks the courage to be honest about anything. Instead you're a dumbass who consistently says idiotic shit, probably because your parents never taught you to take responsibility for your constant fuckups. People who start out morons don't always stay that way. The ones who recognize their idiocy and decide to do something about it generally improve themselves. You, on the other hand, are way past old enough to know better. You're always going to be the same dumbass you've always been.
Enough times to make an impression, apparently. And for the record, moron, you claimed that Allan Ray's eye actually popped out of his head. I said "No, it wasn't that serious. He's expected to be back in action for the NCAA Tournament." Instead of just admitting that you were wrong, you went on for pages making an ass out of yourself, just like vpkozel is doing here. And did Ray come back for the NCAA tournament or not? Yes he did you pole-smoking supercunt. I was right and you knew it, but you turned a pointless disagreement into a multi-page argument because you were too much of a coward to admit that you were wrong.
When the president of FIFA says that something is a foul, then it's a fucking foul. When David Stern says something is a foul, it's a fucking foul. When Roger Goodell says that something is breaking the rules, it's breaking the god damned rules. Just because some refs don't call things correctly doesn't mean that the rules are mutable.

Collin, i'll put my knowledge of the rules of soccer and the game in general against yours any day of the week. The fact that the basis of your argument is from the indian express from 1998 makes you look like the sad pathetic loser that you are.

You're who you've always been. A know it all fuckface cock licker that will argue with anyone because the pointless shit you've done in your life makes you feel like you're more important than you really are.

You were born that way, but not only that, you're probably ugly too. I'm sure you were born that way.

And as far as that stupid fucking eye argument goes, you have yet to acknowledge the fact that i repealed that statment in the very next post. You didn't humiliate me then, and you can't post anything that supports that. Not that losing an argument on the internet is remotely humiliating.

But if you feel that it does then it goes all the way back to your tiny penis and lack of real deep down confidence.

But it's ok. You can keep writing about how everyone here agrees with you, when nobody here really is.

What's humiliating is the fact that you keep pm'ing people and then calling people pussys while you watch the "who's online" feature.

    Neat.

Dumbass, I already acknowledged earlier in this thread that I am most certainly not an expert on soccer. As you can see from the initial argument, I wasn't even a dick about my belief that tackles from behind were always supposed to draw a card until I found incontrovertible proof that I was correct, especially after vpkozel was a dick to me about how I was wrong. The problem is that you and vpkozel The Soccer Expert™ have so much of your ego wrapped up in how other people see you that you feel compelled to argue something you know to be false just to keep from acknowledging that I knew something you didn't. This is just like Clay getting so upset that I knew something he didn't about basketball, because he considers himself an expert on that. He even said that he was one because he plays in a rec league at the gym, just as vpkozel is saying that he's an expert because he played in some league somewhere.
It's not the Indian Express stating an opinion that tackles from behind draw red cards. They're hosting a story in which the president of FIFA (then the general secretary) says in direct quotes that they do. The same story is available through the Associated Press, Indian Express is just a convenient internet source for the story rather than going to the local library and fishing through microfilm for it.

Moreover, you know that. Insulting Indian Express is a measure of your desperation. It's just like when vpkozel made a fool of himself by mocking my use of a link from Manitoba's soccer association. You're not pretending that Indian Express is lying about what Blatter said, and vpkozel didn't pretend that Manitoba lied about the FIFA memorandum (although I then gave him a U.S. Soccer link just to illustrate how stupid he was being). You criticize the source because you have no grounds left on which to argue. Vpkozel lied and said it was never implemented, so I provided links that proved him wrong. You lied and said that this information was outdated, so I provided links that proved you wrong. The people who are arguing with me are not doing so out of any belief that they're actually correct. They're doing it because they don't want to admit that they were wrong, and they especially don't want to admit that I was right. If it had been anyone but me, it might have been a different story.
No shit. I will argue with anyone because I am an irrascible asshole who is a stickler for the facts. I don't have any patience for anyone spewing bullshit or falsehoods, and I'll go to whatever lengths necessary to make sure those lying idiots get exposed.
You trying to compete at insults is like a one-legged midget in a high jump contest. You simply don't have a chance in hell, so don't try.
You have yet to acknowledge that I was right from the very beginning, or that there was no fucking reason for you to be such a complete dick to me in that thread. I wasn't an asshole to you when I corrected you. There was nothing in: "No, it wasn't that serious. He's expected to be back in action for the NCAA Tournament" that justified your behavior. I can deal with people being a dick to me because I obviously invite it with my own abrasiveness, but at least have a reason for it. You said something incorrect, I said something that was absolutely correct, and the shitfest that followed was strictly because of your own embarrassment. There was no legitimate reason for it whatsoever.
Says the guy who so obviously holds a grudge against me because of those supposedly non-existent humiliations. Look, I'm used to it. I have more people following me around this place than anyone, and I know it's because I made them feel stupid in one argument or another. I accept the consequences, but don't follow me around and take potshots while claiming that it's just coincidence. Admit your feelings, at least to yourself, and deal with them.
If my ego were an actual entity, you'd all be living on Mars because there wouldn't be any room left on Earth for anyone else. The idea that I of all people lack confidence is so stunningly stupid that it's proof both of what I said about your limited intellect and your absolute impotence when it comes to insults. Stick to something you're good at, like flossing with foreskin.
Elric does. The president of FIFA does. Bobby McMahon, soccer analyst for Fox Sports does. And most importantly of all, the actual facts do as well. If every other living being on earth disagreed with something I had proof to be true, I would fight all of you in defense of that truth. That's because I care a hell of lot more about being correct than I do about what anyone else thinks of me.
