If you don't like soccer, stay out of the thread.

Czech - Portugal game - tons of chances being created. Nice strike by Ronaldo for the second Portugese goal. The have to be nervous about giving up the equalizer though. Do toho Cesi!

Ronaldo has a weird haircut. It was a nice goal, though. Not as nice as the one by the Dutch Monday afteroon. It was badass. I think even we could beat Italy right now.

Does off sides only apply to the box?

Edit. That is a weird rule. A defender must be inbetween you or beside you and the goal at all times. So much for the break away.

I'm a Dutch fan, so I was thrilled to see them throttle Italy. Really, really great soccer so far. This is much more enjoyable to watch than the World Cup.

well, only until the ball is played. once the ball is played to you, you can make your run and receive the ball behind the defender.

you just don't see alot of long balls in pro soccer. you'll see it on counters sometimes though. that's where you'll get your break aways.

Thanks, Trying really hard to get into this. I am sure it will get even more intense as it gets closer to the finals.

The only time I actually watch soccer is during the World Cup because I figure it's the world's best going at it. I may check this out though.

Good early game b/w Croatia and Germany. The Croats are the real deal. Both of their goals came on some really crappy German defending though.

That victory for the Turks makes the next match against my Czechs a huge one.

Probably a dumb question but are the 'winners', top 5-10, in the Euro the ones that go to the World Cup?

Just trying to learn more about the sport.

No, each competition has qualifiers for everyone but the host nation that last 2 years or so. Each competition is held every 4 years, but they overlap so one of the 2 is held every second year. Each of the qualifying groups is randomly drawn based on seedings, so that you don't end up woith a group that has all the really good teams in it.
