Whatcha readin'?

Don't hold your breath on a 7 book total or being done in 5-6 years. When I first starting reading these (over 10 years ago) he said it was going to be 3 books, then 4 or 5, now 7. Plus, he ain't no spring chicken, so he may kick the bucket before he finishes.

 

Sometimes I read thread titles, click on the link to read what's inside, then find nothing but a bunch of fucking you tubes. Fuck this place, the fad is over.

 

Oh I probably wont finish the series. I only read the first 4 because I bought them. I would have stopped after the second one if I didn't own the other two.

He's not much of a writer, and I hate most of the decisions he's made, so I don't think much of his storytelling ability either. If I do read the next book, it will merely be to see what happens to the few remaining characters I do like.

I'd rather see the first 4 books from the Wheel of Time turned into a series, there was some good stuff in those books. But from book 5 on, it was unreadable crap.

 

I have enjoyed all of the Ice & Fire series myself. To me the only part that hasn't captured my interest is the Greyjoy/Iron Islands. I am also not a big fan of how long it is taking to complete each book.

I enjoy the break from genre norms such as clear cut good and bad, main characters always live or triumph, just to name a couple.

As far as WoT I concur for the most part, the last two were readable and started getting back on track to come to a conclusion. I don't know how the last one is going to pan out with a new writer but I will read to see how everything turns out. Heck, I have been reading this series since I was a young man in '91 or '92, how time flies.

 

Oh yeah, the Iron Islands were terrible. Didn't really care for the Dorne crap either. And I think it has been well documented here that I hate the Lannisters.

By the way, I think that the idea that there is no clear cut good or evil in these books is a little over blown. The Lannisters are pretty vile people on the whole. Jamie is the only one that is tolerable, and that's only because he doesn't get along with Cersei anymore. The rest are total trash. The Freys are also pretty much trash.

The Starks, on the other hand, are all pretty good people. Daenerys seems to be a pretty all around good person as well. The people that support the Starks all seem like good people as well. I have seen a pretty clear cut between good and evil in the series.

Yes, some members of each camp are out of place, but very few have actually undergone any kind of transformation from good guy to bad or vice versa.

I don't have a problem with complex characters, but most of his complex characters have gotten pushed aside for Sam, Catelyn, Cersei, Tyrion, and a lot of other whiney characters. God, I wish they would just gut that fat pig Sam so I don't have to read about how cowardly he is. That is not good reading.

 

Michael Connelly's THE OVERLOOK. I've read several of his books, haven't been dissapointed yet.

Jaime is a character that went from being one of my least liked to one of my favorites.

 

Yeah, Jamie as a main character vs Jamie as a secondary character is much more likeable and easily the best of the Lannisters.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Sansa Stark, she may end up being as annoying as her mother, but hopefully she ends up more like her father and siblings. Arya and Jon especially are good characters.

 

I'm intrigued by the "Wall" portion of the books now...(except for fat Sam). Not sure if the King / wildings will turn out good or evil there.

 

I don't think they are good or evil, they are just there.
