I was just allocated a new macbook (not pro) by my church to do some design work for them. It's got the OS 10.5 on it (leopard, I think?).

I've never used a mac before, and frankly, having worked on it a few hours, I'm still not buying into the hype (although, trying to keep an open mind). Anyone have any suggestions as to a good, brief, and preferably free/cheap tutorial into the basics of the Mac OS? So far, missing the right click is freakin killing me.

Once you get acclimated I'm sure that you'll agree that Macs are pretty user-friendly....you have to get rid of the PC mentality first.

Right-click? You can either buy a mouse with the right-click function, or you can you 'control' and click.

As far as tutorials, I would start here.

    Good luck!

Wait, so Mac supports Right Click, they just don't have a Right Click button on the laptop? Am I missing something or is that really bizarre?

I have an iMac, not a notebook, but I would think that command (apple)+click or control+click would do it.

To be honest, I use it so much that I don't remember which one it is.

yeah, that's something i never understood with mac -- the insistence that 1 mouse button is enough. i think the newest deluxe mice are now multi-button, tho they don't actually have real buttons -- they just sense where you're pressing. thinking about it, i think mac mice have pretty much always sucked.

they had a perfectly round mouse which made it exceedingly hard to line up the correct way in your hand.

the mouse that is a button itself makes click dragging very difficult if you need to lift the mouse to reposition for extended drags.

my personal fav mouse is the logitech wheel mouse. simple 3 button with a scroll wheel. nice ergonomics without getting ludicrous.

the mighty mouse senses a right or left click.

    360 scrolling rules.
