I do the same thing, but I add $125, plus I put in about $75 into an annuity. I just started the annuity, but I'm thinking of dropping it because I'm not sure if its a great place to invest.

i have 2.5 years left at this job until i can retire with full benefits from the state as well as my local government benefit of medical coverage on me until i hit medicare age. i am 49 now. i plan on working for myself and making as much as i can while i am able. add to it my 401k, money market, and maybe ss, we should be set. but one never knows where tomorrow will take us.

we (NC) have one of the best state retirement plans in the nation. i started young and stuck it out. some of my peers did not. now they're left to continue chasing dollars as they also face their 50's and beyond. i'm not rich but i think we did ok. hang with it.

I started in the retirement system at age 32. I have almost five years in now. If I make it 30 years I will be 62 when I retire. I should be in good shape financially by then.

I am not putting more away now because I have some debt I need to take care of. Hopefully in four or five years I will be out of debt and can up my retirement savings.

You can thank the Bailey/Godwin civil suit....

....the largest in NC history for calling out improper taxing on retirement gigs. Judge Bailey, my father-in-law, and Judge Godwin, tipped me $5 bucks when I was 12 as the paper boy, both now deceased, saved state employees huge bucks.

Get out of the fucking annuity. They're rips. HUGE fees your paying out of every $75 you give them. Fuck that annuity in its ass...no lube.

Not not really. I pay into the state retirement plan so it is not a hand out it is a return on my investment. Social security is the same way except I will never get a good return on my money from it. I would much rather be able to put that money in a retirement account that I own.

THe company I'm with SAYS there are no fees. They guarantee no loss of money too. Whether or not that is true is what worries me.
