JJ reDick to Magic: Play Me or Trade Me

Whatever happened to 'earning' playing time? Apparently the coach just doesn't think he's better than the 8 or 9 guys in front of him. Maybe that'll change somewhere else, but I doubt it.

 

If he's not the 9th best player on the Magic then he has a right to ask to go elsewhere. It's not fair to bury someone on the bench without giving them a chance. It's not like Maurice Evans or Keyon Dooling are dominating with the minutes given to them. I mean, he only played in 34 games, did he play in the NBDL? When the Bobcats couldn't find Jermario Davidson minutes they put him in the NBDL. You have to give a young player a chance to play and develop, I don't think Redick is crazy for voicing his concerns. Valuable years are going to waste on Orlando's bench and with limited practicing during the season he's worried about his continued development.

The fact that Orlando has a lottery pick invested in him makes it all the more curious. Perhaps they think the NBDL would be a disrespect and perhaps Redick refused to go, I don't know. I just think he should have a shot to play and Orlando isn't giving that to him currently. I don't know he'll be any good although this year his game appeared to show some advancement.

The real question is, will Adam Morrison be an even bigger bust.

 

Your point before was that he deserved his chance to play - in Orlando or somewhere else.
My point is that he doesn't 'DESERVE' to play in Orlando. He has to earn playing time. Just because he was drafted (don't care if he was lottery or not) does not automatically make him a starter. I think Orlando has it right - play the best players on the team. He just happens not to be one of them. So a demand of Play Me or Trade Me is just childish. He should just ask to be traded since he can't earn playing time on Orlando's team.

 

Depends on why he isn't playing. Marcus Allen sat on the bench in Oakland for years despite being a HOF running back just because he pissed of the owner.

Reddick has proven when he plays that he is productive.

You may want to recheck your Marcus Allen facts there sherlock, unless you meant that all players sit on a bench at some point during the games.

 

Garbage time doesn't prove squat about anything. Hell, I could easily shoot 45% from the field during the times that Redux is in the game.
