Looks like Williams may have recruited over him and the family issues just made it easier to go back to the left coast.

I think that's a good comp. Davis was a lottery pick, by the way.

Davis actually produced in college, by the way. When was selected as a lottery pick after his senior season, he had 13 pts 10 rbs over his career, including 18/12 his senior year.

When Davis entered the draft, high schoolers and underclassmen were a rarity. Don't pretend like you're as stupid as wossa and argue that NBA teams draft based on college production. They draft based on projection, and Stepheson has considerable NBA potential.

Davis didn't have a deep team to compete against for minutes either.

This thread was already a classic before this little gem. The only thing 'Dale Davisish' about his game are his shoulders and athletic ability. Stepheson makes Dale Davis look like Dell Curry when it comes to offense, and we all know how limited Davis was on that end.

If Stepheson is 1/5th the player Davis was in the NBA he'll be extremely lucky. I'd be shocked if a team wasted a lottery pick on him.

I'm kinda agreeing with you. I think Stepheson has more upside at this point than Dale Davis did at the same point in college, though. Stepheson really improved this year but I don't see him being a lottery pick (really - a lottery pick!?!).
I think he's looking at transferring to either USC or UCLA. I also heard that his family is going to ask the NCAA to waive the 'sit out a year' rule for him because of the family's medical condition. I don't expect that to fly, though, as this kind of thing happens a lot. Kinda ballsy to even ask, but I guess it doesn't hurt.

Hopefully it does work out for him. The Niners are trying the same thing with Spears. Hopefully Stephenson avoids USC due to the Mayo situation. I think UCLA recruited Stephenson but not sure if they still need him.

I don't agree that Stepheson has more 'upside' than Dale Davis. Well, perhaps only because no one thought Davis was going to be much until he dominated his Junior season beside Elden Campbell. People were still skeptical that he could to it by himself his senior year but he was great. I guess it depends on ceiling but I don't think Stepheson has any chance to match what Dale Davis did in college. As for the NBA, I suppose it's possible he could be better potentially than DD, but I'd be shocked. He's much more athletic than DD was, but so is everyone else in the NBA, the game has changed.
