What percentage?

Mine is probably 50% of my take-home. It's a 15-year note.

My take-home already subtracts a maxed out 401k, a maxed out employee stock purchase, and some other savings, and my charitable contributions, and a flexible daycare plan contribution too. And my take-home doesn't factor in my large bonuses, my stock grants/options, etc. And it's just my income, not including my wife.

Add in all of our income for our real take-home, and it's in the 20-25% range. Take out the large auto-savings and charity payments and such, and we'd be way down on that list. Make it a 30-year or interest only, make it mortage payment only (no escrow or insurance), and it'd be under 10% .

Anyway, all of this is just to show that the details matter when you ask the question. It's a pretty huge range in my answer (50% - 10%).
