I'm sure you already know this but it seems your problem isn't technical at all. You are just dealing with dumbasses who don't want to do their job.

I'm fairly sure there is a way to get what you want to work, I just don't really understand what you are trying to do.

No doubt, absolutely. If they don't have the updated information, they don't have to change. Right?
But there's also blame with me.... Updating everything has to be done at different times with different people and it's only 1/10 of my job.

Ie... 36 people. 18 locations. Sometimes, all those people at every location, sometimes just one person at that location. Then add 7 units at those locations. It's mind boggling.

I'm sure you want to meet me at Wesley Avenure next week and I'll show you...... I kid. You've done far too much already and have helped me far more than I've ever helped you. ;)

You need a way that's automatic to make these updates happen without the other side being engaged (you just update data, and they're using it). And you need guaranteed local availability. That means using replication somewhere. You don't do this kind of thing in a tiny company, so database expertise is not something you'd have to hire at $70k+, you'd just leverage 2 hours of a an existing person's time periodically.

Given that, Access to front-end SQL replication makes a lot of sense. You might even be able to do Access-SQL replication directly.

Yes, there is work involved, but a lot less (and likely less expensive after a year) than the drive time for manual updates, or if there is some issue that results from the use of old/out-of-date data...

Ok so I've decided I need to learn how to run a small server.

    Any suggestions?

In the grand scheme of things, there won't be much data on it and it will be for about 40 people.

I would like to also have a forum on there much like this one so we could post about work related things, technical querries etc..

Any direction would be appreciated. I'm now going to search out some programs (free or cheap) for this to see where I stand in my knowledge, but pointing me in the right direction would be groovey.
    ;)

I'm not going to ask my company to pay for it, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Once it's working, what can they say?
