I have lost 15 pounds since I first posted in this thread. Granted that has taken 6 months but still I am making some progress.

I am trying to find a way to reach and maintain a healthy weight not necessarily trying to lose it all at once. I have struggled with this all my life and I have lost large amounts of weight in the past only to gain it all back. I do not want to constantly be on a diet or rigid exercise program. I want to make changes so that may habits naturally lead to a healthy weight.

I recently joined a gym nearby.. and the *plan* is to go 3 times a week... I was dieting and lost 15 pounds, but the diet was ridiculous and I felt like I was starving myself, so I stopped. I am trying to make better decisions when it comes to food, but it's impossible to be perfect.. I've gained back 10 of the pounds that I lost with the diet.. but I'm working hard to get that back off.. and more.

Put your mind to it and you can do it. It helps if you can get a partner to work with you and has the same or similar goals in mind. That has helped me immensely so far.

    This is good advice.

Everyone's different, but I lost over 100 lbs. in a year just by:

    1) Minimizing fat/simple carb/sugar intake.
    2) Increasing protein/vegetable/complex carb intake.
    3) 30 minutes of cardio activity 5 times a week.

You don't have to do all of that to lose weight, though. Any of it's good. And you don't have to starve yourself, either, if you eat healthy. I eat three meals and two snacks a day now, and only hit the gym 3 or 4 times a week, and I've been able to maintain my goal weight within 5 lbs.

    Good luck!

I see someone who (like the majority of us) struggles with finding the right fit for the long haul. With respect Freak, five pounds is quite a difference to 75. Yes, the principle's the same - but it's a different mindset, different strategy required to maintain that motivation. I think he's done well with being honest about it here. Fifteen pounds is bloody good - and I applaud him for his efforts.

You too Magnus - awesome news! What changes did you make - anything that made you decide "right, today is it!" I'm always interested in what inspires people to make that change in their lives. For me, it was the fact that I packed on more weight after my Mum died last year. I have a high stress job and smoke. Something had to give. As much as I hate to admit this weakness, I couldn't give up smoking (much as I tried) :frown:. I'm very passionate about my work - that's my total drive. So yea, the arse had to go.

This morning, I reached the 100 pound loss milestone.

And I feel pretty damn good with it .
