    Some of you may be wondering what Judge Roy Moore has been doing since he
    was removed from the bench for refusing to remove the Ten Commandments from
    his courtroom wall. Please read the poem he wrote. It's below his picture.

    The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama. Judge Moore
    was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom
    foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to
    strip his right to practice law in Alabama! The judge's poem sums it up
    quite well.

    ====================

    America the beautiful,
    or so you used to be.
    Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
    I'm glad they'll never see.

    Babies piled in dumpsters,
    Abortion on demand,
    Oh, sweet land of liberty;
    your house is on the sand.

    Our children wander aimlessly
    poisoned by cocaine
    choosing to indulge their lusts,
    when God has said abstain

    From sea to shining sea,
    our Nation turns away
    From the teaching of God's love
    and a need to always pray

    We've kept God in our
    temples,how callous we have grown.
    When earth is but His footstool,
    and Heaven is His throne.

    We've voted in a government
    that's rotting at the core,
    Appointing Godless Judges;
    who throw reason out the door,

    Too soft to place a killer
    in a well deserved tomb,
    But brave enough to kill a baby
    before he leaves the womb.

    You think that God's not
    angry, that our land's a moral slum?
    How much longer will He wait
    before His judgment comes?

    How are we to face our God,
    from Whom we cannot hide?
    What then is left for us to do,
    but stem this evil tide?

    If we who are His children,
    will humbly turn and pray;
    Seek His holy face
    and mend our evil way:

    Then God will hear from Heaven;
    and forgive us of our sins,
    He'll heal our sickly land
    and those who live within.

    But, America the Beautiful,
    If you don't - then you will see,
    A sad but Holy God
    withdraw His hand from Thee.

    Sounds like Judge Moore is a bit too heavy on the religious right.
    You can't have Christian texts displaying in a courtroom any more than you could display Jewish or Hindu texts. Wonder if the judge would display those in his courtroom.

    I can respect the judge's faith & understand the thoughts about moral decay he expressed in his poem (although as "poetry" it grates on my brain--yikes!). I don't think the courtroom was an appropriate place to display his spiritual beliefs; & I don't agree that moral decay is a result of rejection of Christianity in particular, or religion in general. I don't think morals & values come from any religion. Posting something like that in his chambers would have been much more appropriate.

    But unless it's particularly intrusive in the way it's displayed, or unless it's being brought up & pointed out in courtroom proceedings, it's just not that big a deal. I think it's petty to make a big enough deal out of it to actually file a lawsuit. It's a waste of effort & resources that could be spent on things that are a lot more important. How many cases dealing with people's lives, livelihoods, injuries, crimes--matters of serious import where real suffering is involved--are backed up waiting to be addressed while petty crap like this clogs the courts because someone gets a bee in his bonnet over something he doesn't like? Jeez--if that's all you've got to worry about, write a letter & consider yourself a lucky bastard :rolleyes:

    I do understand the concern over keeping church & state separate. That's pretty vital to a member of a feared & disparaged minority religion, which I am. But you have to pick your battles. Don't whine about a plaque or poster while people are actually being abused & discriminated against. If you care & aren't just stirring crap & trying to get attention for yourself, look for the cases where people are actually being harmed & jump on that bandwagon. There are plenty.

    What was it Jesus said about worrying about the speck in your brother's eye when you have a beam in your own? My pagan self finds that particularly relevant here :smile:

    I don't know the details of the case, but I don't see why this one thing would be enough to remove him from the bench. And how can it have any bearing whatsoever on his qualifications to practice law? If there's no more to it than that, it's ridiculous.

    Petty BS :rolleyes:

    That poem was originally called America the Beautiful. Do we really want a guy as a judge that has such hatred for America?

    Not hatred for America but hatred for the sin and the moral decay of our society.Like it or not this country was founded on CHRISTIAN principles and that is what he is talking about is our falling away from the priciples on which this nation was founded.

    Sounds like you have little to no understanding of history and the debate behind and intention of the 1st amendment
