Aren't Gamble and Lucas free agents next year? It makes sense in that respect, but I'm thinking he moves to safety.

Godfrey WILL be a free safety, but he's a guy we can move around. Probably the only Iowa player that is draftable, well maybe DE Kenny Iwubema who really is a Rucker-type of player.

For the record, like the player...but he isn't a DT or a DE?

Really like this kid, hits like a tank. Just afraid that the coaching staff is going to think of him as a Corner instead of a saftey like with Wesley.

    from nfl network analysis...

Compares To: TANARD JACKSON-Tampa Bay … Like Jackson and Alabama's Simeon Castille, Godfrey might be a better fit as a free safety than at cornerback. He made great strides in his coverage skills as a senior, but just seems more comfortable in run support and playing the ball than covering a receiver one-on-one. He is too aggressive at the corner position and the result has been a high amount of interference calls. He has excellent timed speed, but with stiff hips and a marginal backpedal, it is negated by the false steps and poor turning agility he shows in transition. Move him inside, where he can play downhill, and you get better value.

I guarantee you that they drafted him as a special teams gunner, but hopefully he can also develop into a solid free safety.

Godfrey, who played both cornerback and safety in college, will start out at free safety for the Panthers when they open minicamp this coming weekend, according to Fox. With the team not re-signing last year’s starter Deke Cooper, look for Godfrey to battle for a starting spot with two other youngsters, Nate Salley and Quinton Teal.

Richard Marshall saved our ST's from complete disaster last year. Hopefully Godfrey and him can make a nice pair of gunners.
