Bottom line....if we have a good year and make the playoffs, the price was reasonable. If we suck and it's a top 10 pick, Fox and Hurney are gone anyway and the price was too steep.

The Falcons gave up a hell of a lot less to get Baker

Agreed, I am OK with it, but we could have kept the future and gone Otah at 13 and moved up for Stewart even later in the first (probably around 25-28) as I think Stewart would have been there maybe evn through the 5th pick of the second the way things are going.
Cowboys were aimig for Jones all along and Mendenhall is still there.

Pretty much Fox and company laid it all on the line for this season.... so much so even at the cost of next. So I think it's apparent that they know they have got to make it work this year or else someone else will be here. I haven't been thinking that Fox and crew were in all that much trouble but after this I'm starting to believe it.

I think the comparrison will be against the player taken next year with our pick. Basically we moved our 2009 1st to 2008 giving up a 2nd and 4th. Our 1st round picks have been much better overall than what we have done in the 2-4 slot if I recall a ranking that was posted recently. I expect the pick will be lower than 19th. This is a good move imho, but obviously time will tell.

Baker isn't half as good, and the Falcons didn't have far to trade but still gave up an extra 2nd. Better trade, but far less to travel and for far less a player.

He gave Otah a B as a player, but said that we gave up way too much and he never would have done it because he actually values first round picks.

That explains why you're not upset, because you don't have enough knowledge to know what happened. Otah is not a LT in the NFL, and he isn't a franchise RT either. He's a raw run blocker who is suspect in pass protection.

If you give up next years #1 to get another #1 this year, thats fine, but throwing in the #2 and #4 is just plain dumb. I am thinking more like you keep the #2 and #4 and give them the #3.

It really comes down to a gamble on where the #1 will end up being next year.
