yes the books do drag at times. The wolf dream crap with Bran did get old. Yes he kills off too many characters and leaves good characters (Jon Snow) out of the story for too many pages.

still a great series even with the flaws

Currently reading EMPEROR: THE GATES OF ROME, by Conn Iggulden 1st book in a 4 book series, a historical novel on the life of Julius Ceasar.

I read and enjoyed his historical novel on Gengis Kahn, so I thought I'd give this a try

Well, I'm hoping it gets better. Some of the story lines are good, and I really have grown to like Dany. If she happens to die soon, I think I might give up on the books for good.

I could do without another chapter from the point of view of Samwell Tarley or a Lannister again. There is at least one character I'm glad is dead, so I don't have to hear another chapter from their point of view.

I like Jon Snow well enough, but when he becomes your strongest anchor and you neglect him, you know a story is off course. Seriously, the Lannisters are scum, but boring scum.

The only one who is the least bit interesting, Jamie, is such a whiny little forlorn girl that it grates on my nerves.

It's weird seeing a UNCC grad in the reading forum.

I wish I had done that.

Actually at this point I wish I hadn't picked up the first one 11 or 12 years ago and just waited until they were all done.

The Imp is not as bad as Cersei, but the only one who doesn't totally suck is Jamie, and he's only gotten tolerable now that's he not dreaming of being in his woman's arms.

That was so intolerable. Tyrion is so boring. Oh, I'm ugly and short, BUT I'm A LANNISTER. A LANNISTER ALWAYS PAYS HIS DEBTS! My father never loved me, woe is me. Cersei is easily the worst character (other than the iron island people) who has the story told from her POV. Samwell Tarley is up there though. Seriously, how many times can one person say they are fat and craven. The point has been made. Numerous times.

But hey, Jon Snow, Arya Stark and Dany are still interesting. And the Hound is a pretty cool character. I seriously hope the iron island people are done after this 4th book. I'm about 1/4 the way though it. I do think the TV series will be good though, probably better than the books.
