Seriously? Yes they are important. As to the left tackle thing the 2005 seahawks ran behind their Left tackle and their left guard pretty fucking often- how'd that work out?

it was a bit of a weakness. I expect Wharton to have a little more leg drive this year, without the rigors of rehab, but he was not great inline and the Gross/King tandem needs improvement.

I'm not terribly worried about having Gross and Wharton next to each other, which is the inevitability of an Otah pick, or if we picked a later player like Nicks. I think that pair will be a strength in the passing game, and solid in the running game for a left side combo, to where if we did get a good increase on the beef at RG and RT it'd be worth it.

Of course, as well the idea of a good upgrade at LT and having a beefy RG would be just as solid IMO. The key concern there is whether Fox wants to gamble on putting a rookie on an island.

Read what he said, p99. He said AS important. So while you can respond: yes they are important -- it's not what he said.

Its a debatable point while your talking about the run game. Where are the hard yards gained? The middle, or on the edges? If youre concentrating on the run game, you better make damn sure youre going to have good guards. Now, obviously tackles are more important all around on a team than guards can ever be, so no one can debate you on that.

But Thelt is making a fair point---if we go DH in the first, and we cant score the tackle we need in the second, its not the end of the world. We can still get very good value at G, and keep Wharton at T.

There are real options, here, and its good to remember that.

edit- your example was also a poor one. That LT and LG were the two best in the game that year, in Jones and Hutchinson. And one could make the point, that when Hutch left, and even though Jones stayed, the running game suffered.

You're right, sorry Thelt, I should have read that more carefully.

To quote mags 'I want a real upgrade you picky ************' keeping Wharton at T and finding a value pick guard (where he'd likely sit behind hangartner) doesn't really look like an upgrade to me it looks like we are hoping that the OL will be good enough- an upgrade at guard would be nice but an upgrade at tackle, ideally, strengthens both positions.

    No prob, B&B.

Oh, I agree with this completely, btw. Me too. Youre right when you say this, Im just saying it could still be ok if we dont get it, that a top flight G could still upgrade our line significantly.

We could always be better than Wharton and Gross but IMHO the improvement to the run game to be gained by upgrading on them is less than what can be gained by upgrading on the interior line.

If we get a DL in the first round then we could always go guard in the second or take a guy like Baker or Nicks and play them a guard for a while until they get comfortable enough to move outside.

In your opinion, would Gross/Rosario be better?

as a blocker? no. I'm hoping that King can be better in one of the two areas so we at least know whether to start him or not. I'd like that to start as him being a better blocker, because I believe Rosario is a little better as a route runner and certainly seems better with the ball in his hands in the limited time (and can't be much worse than King's seemingly consistent "catch and fall" process).
