I get a decent discount on Dell and Hewett Packard PCs here at work. Daughter wants a desk top to go to school with. What are your opinions of Dells in general?

Dells lately have been made a little more inferior, but IMO all PCs lately have been going that route. Dells got pretty good customer service as well.

I like Dell because their online support is excellent. Customer support is good too, but I've dealt with it mainly on the server side.

Not bad overall. Check to make sure what if any expansion slots it may have. That would be key to me. While the PC is okay now, the ability to add video cards, memory, etc in the future helps to sell me a machine. That insures it'll last more than a year or so.

You could just upgrade everything up front and be done with it.

I asked her that and she doesn't "currently" see herself taking notes with a laptop in class. She has always been the type to study at a desk and would prefer a desk top. That and there seems to be several computer labs at CofC where she can pop a jump drive in to work if she doesn't want to walk back to the dorm

I am reluctant to a system with Vista but I guess I need to come into the 21st century eventually
