Tips for Wide Angle Lens?

I got a 10-22mm Canon in the mail today via lensdepot. I'm heading to NOLA tomorrow. Any suggestions on how to use this lens? What should I consider when trying for DOF? Is it pretty much the same as my standard 18-200mm lens?

I played with it for a little bit but I got too much shit to finish at work to dig into it.

 

Wide angles have an inherently deep depth of field to them while teles are inherently shallow. All that means is you can shoot a wide angle a little closer to wide open and still have decent DOF where the same is not true of teles. My advice for using a wide angle is to get as close as you can to your subject and FILL THE FRAME. If the zoom won't get you close enough, walk close enough. Otherwise you'll have a little bitty subject in a picture with a lot of useless information. There is nothing worse than having your subject as some tiny spec that you can't recognize. That focal range should allow you to get right on top of your subject and STILL have some of the environment if that's what you want. They are great in tight situations. I love them.
