    Got a few laying around from when my kids were born 1997-99ish. what's the story on value/maturity of these?

    interesting. i used it a couple of years ago with some bonds my family had...worked fine. you probably could take them into your bank and have them valued there. my guess is that if they were bought in 97-99 they are probably matured. but they will continue to earn interest.

    If they've matured they are no longer earning interest. Wp, you'd be better off opening a Money Market, at least with the Money Market your interest is compounding.

    I and EE savings bonds continue to earn interest for as many as 30 years.

    They're all EE, I'd like to roll them into something that will build a little extra college fund for them.

    I won a $50 US savings bond in the 5th grade. When I turned 18 I cashed it in. I think I got $55. I've hated savings bonds ever since.

    Just take them to your bank and cash them in and find another investment vehicle for the cash.

    VA, keep in mind that a $50 bond only costs $25. You didn't do that bad.
