This discussion came up on another board i frequent, so i thought about posting here...

    Basically,

1)Is it "fair" that UNC was able to play 4 games in the state of NC

    2) Was it fair that Memphis had to play Tex in Houston for the E8 game.

    3) Was it fair that Gonzaga was the 7 seed and had to travel 3000 miles to play Davidson (10) in Raleigh?

i guess what i am asking, (not that this means shit to anyone)is, should the NCAA continue to allow teams to play in basically "home court" situations for the tourney? Could it not have made more sense to send UNC to Wash then to Charlotte? I just dont know that the integrity of the game being "neutral" courts is protected in situations like this.

I have a bigger issue with the Gonzaga v Davidson game than any.

    Discuss.

Be objective, not a UNC walmarthomer that doesnt give any thought to this. kthxbi.

The UNC situation really has some ticked off. Even Patino asked if Roy even remembered where the airport was.

They srart with the #1 seeds and work there way down. In TX case they were not a #1 so that might account for that. Also, they try and have equal challenges in each bracket, which also could account for the site selection.

the no 1. seeds deserve to play as close to home as possible. How far in advance are the locations set? UNC just happened to pick a really good year to be the no 1. seed.

Exactly, the number 1 seeds should get the closest location to their home if possible.

As far as lower seeds, with their being 65 teams, I don't think you will ever run into a completely nuetral court for every single team, it's just not possible.

While you can say that was shit for the Zags, it was also shit that Davidson was seeded as low as they were, having to play a harder tourney to get where they were.

Harder only based on seed vs seed......going through GT and Wisc (2 teams that slow the offense down) were not exactly juggarnauts (IMO)

That's the point, based on seeding. But I am sure nobody expected Davidson to make the noise they did.

So, they get a 10 seed, get to play in NC vs a team that traveled 3k miles then a team that has the offensive output of a JV girls team, then travel to Detroit to play another team that puts up the same numbers?

Seems to me, the NCAA was looking for Cinderella and made sure they got one.

And before the tourney, most everybody thought those teams were better than Davidson.

Dude, seriously, they beat some good teams. GT wasn't as good as the hype, but you would be hard pressed to find anybody before the tourney who would have picked Davidson to beat them. I mean hell, they took Kansas to the wire.

You are making a big deal about a team having to travel. These kids have to do it all the time, its not like its anything new to them. While the travel part may suck, it has advantages as well, you don't have the at home distractions, which can be a huge advantage.

Yes, they "made sure" Davidson would get through the bracket by making it possible for them to play the regular season Big 10 and Big East champs. And they should have lost to G'town.

Butler played South Alabama in Birmingham. No one made a big deal about that. You know why? Butler took care of bidness and whooped that ass like the higher seed is supposed to do.

It was a nice run - not a setup.

actually it was discussed quite a bit on ESPN.....though Butler did not have to travel 3000 miles either.

and if you think that travel doesnt make a difference...then you've never been from the West coast back to the east coast......it takes a good 3 days to recoup the time difference. Say what you want, that set up should have never happened.
