Did I say I thought he wasn't? I don't think I did. I have some doubts based on what was in my last post but hope he proves me wrong. My question is to anyone who is so sure that Willlams can be "the man' based on what he's done. If that's you, convince me.

He was a college star at running back and rated as a first round talent in the draft. It was considered a bit of a steal when we got him near the bottom of the first round. He has had a very healthy yards per carry average during his two pro seasons. He has shown several examples of his home run ability by breaking off big scoring runs.

He is ready to go and be a stud. Next year this time no one will be talking about whether he is an every down back. They will be talking about how we might have made the playoffs the past two seasons if we had started him over Foster.

You should have just stopped at 'Next year this time no one will be talking about whether he is an every down back.'

the problem in my statement wasn't with you being on the fence, it was with your questioning if he could be - nothing's wrong with that, but state your doubts.

If he breaks out some people will be saying that, just not you (nor I). It's inevitable. And if he doesn't, they'll be saying we need a bruiser.

Whether he's able or not won't enter into it, I don't think we'll do that unless it's a necessity.

    I thought I did.

I have seen some reason for hope but I have also seen that he got stuffed on 11.1 % of his carries. Foster was only 8.1%. 48% of his runs were for 3 yards or less, where Foster was 43.5%. That's working behind the same line. Yeah, he had some big flashy runs but were they him, our O-line deciding that was the time to earn their millions, or the opposing D deciding to take a play off? Call me a skeptic but I didn't see runs like Smitty against Houston.

5 yards per carry behind the same OL that Foster got 3.5 says it all

yeah, they ran behind the same line; Williams got more outside carries to it serves to believe there'd be more opportunity loss on those carries. But, if the line is a constant, why are his big runs "the line deciding to earn their millions"? Seems like you'd want to logically stay with the idea that it's a continuity. I don't understand the idea of wanting to not credit him for his best work.

That Smith TD, well, people in the league don't really do that. If you're expecting that from a starting back, well, start holding your breath.

I do not understand the attitude some have about DW. When we drafted him I wanted him to start right away. We were told he had problems with blocking and that Foster still started to help in that area. We waited two long years to see him get his shot and now that it is here some want to make him split carries with some mythical big back. Screw that, when DW starts ripping off some big games teams will have to use their safeties more in run support and less on doubling Smith.
