You determine what you want to be as a football team and get the best players at that.

Pats wanted to throw the ball....they got big-time recievers to match their big-time QB.

The Ravens in their heyday wanted to be strong D, they got big-time D players.

We used to be a D to be reckoned with...but we aren't anymore.

We're a team that is just 'good enough' at too many places.

What are we GREAT at on the field?

Of course, "best" is relative. There was one guy considered close to the best there is, and he got a ridiculous contract.

But, we've always found ourselves a run first, play D team. We're working toward a better line on O and D. We're putting young players, notably Williams, in a position to succeed. I think we'll be doing that well.

Whether we do enough with the pass rush, I don't know. With what's available, either we have to overspend on a rush guy, or wait for the draft and hope that guy can add something. With Peppers' contract hanging over our head, what we do in buying an end is very sensitive. You can't pay Calvin Pace $45 million for his ~10 career sacks and try to pay Peppers $45 also.

So, that ties our hands somewhat, but I also just would't pay $30 mil for Odom and $45 mil for Pace.

Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith is pretty great. Julius Peppers used to be great before last season.

I think we ought to open up the offense and quit trying to be a run first team. I like that kind of offense but we are not built for that sort of thing. Our best players is a wide out. Maybe we will get to see what Davidson's offense really looks like this year. Last year he had no chance once Jake went down.

Our best player is a wideout and our QB is a run-offense-QB. He's not a great passer. Mags is right...we ARE built to be a run offense.

Jake is a pretty good passer. Look at the stats Smith put up in 2005 and Moose in 2004. Give him a little time to throw and he will get the job done.

in a way I agree. I like running, I like short passing under what we have. If Jarrett and Moose are contributing, that shouldn't be an issue; if we spread more, we can pass deeper or shorter within reason and Rosario's relative lack of blocking skill melts away a bit.

So, spreading a bit more might suit DW's style, and fit our WRs too.

So according to the Reed blog Julius Jones is meeting with the Titans. He says it doesn't seem like we have much interest which is surprising. He'd be cheaper than Turner and would make a nice duo. Not sure who else is left out there? I mentioned Jesse Chatman before but it looks more and more we might need to grab one early in the draft, just hopefully not 1st round, or 2nd for that matter. I also hope they aren't content going into next season with DW, Goings and Alexy Haynes.

I wouldn't be opposed to JJ being a number 2 back here, but he might want like 1.5 back money (if that makes sense).
