Va Tech is a great example of whats wrong with the RPI/conference bias. They are like 3-7 away from home and 4-9 including neutral courts. They're also 0-5 against the RPI top 50. Their only claim to fame is sweeping Maryland (not bad, but is that enough?). But they're in the damn discussion despite a 63 RPI (which would be like 35 under the old system, or so a graphic showed this weekend), because they are 8-6 "in the ACC" (see VA49er's post about what that really means).

I have nothing against the Hokies. One of my best friends is a real diehard, so I kinda keep up with them through him. And I've watched them play about a half dozen times this year. They're a really mediocre basketball team. I'm talking 150ish overall. It's tough, but they just don't have the talent they've had the last couple of years. But damn if they won't be in every bubble and bid discussion anyway. They have no business being in that discussion.

You know, I was unsure about this argument when I started reading this thread. However, Faniker has proven to me that he is correct.

Do you always call him by his last name? Is that some kind of 'Kotter' complex?

I'm not sure what an otter complexion is but the Big East is the better basketball conference.

Like I said before, take away those cupcakes wins against those 4 bottom feeder teams that your top 12 teams have against them, then you can start to make this argument. But I am guessing you wouldn't want to take 4 wins away from Georgetown.

Do they play home-and-home in the BE? It'd be 8 wins.

Is that the same Georgetown that dismantled the mighty Chapel Hill College last year when it mattered?

It's not a round robin, although they do play a few teams twice.

I may have missed a game or two, but looking at the games, the top 12 teams are 41-7 against those bottom 4 teams in the big east.

Had to reach back, I guess the argument can't stand on its current merits.
