UNC, I understand a great deal about what being a Christian means in the ways I'm familiar with. I used to be one. A good ol' Southern Baptist. I've also attended Methodist, Pentecostal, Lutheran and Episcipoal churches and spent a pretty good bit of my time studying the Bible from both a believer and non-believer's perspective.

As you can see in this forum, and even in this thread, there is debate over even amongst Christians over what the Bible actually reveals about God, His laws, and His plan for human beings.

    Hyperbole.

I guess one could say that is a problem for those who take the Bible as absolutely literl in truth.

I think you have to consider the purpose of the oration...was it a botany lesson...or anology to illustrate a bigger idea?

EDIT: Not sure what literl means....literal, I think is the word here.

If you read back through my posts - I was one of the few people who said someone could be a Christian AND be gay. I do still think that that lifestyle is a choice, however.

The point I was trying to make was if it mattered to anyone what MY opinions and beliefs were. Not that you weren't capable of understanding them. Understanding and accepting are two different things. I believe you to be a very intelligent person and would hope we could have different beliefs and still disagree without bashing the other's ideas.

    King James Version (KJV)

31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is
like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

I'm sorry, but I just don't think this particular argument makes one bit of difference.

I agree. It is only a problem for the diehard literalists. Even then, it shouldn't be a huge problem. No pun intended.

No bashing intended. I will challenge as I hope people will continue to do with me. Only when folks are challenged can you see how they truly think.

Your assertion was that heterosexual attraction was programmed into the genetic code of every human being by God. I asked you for a reference to back that up, and out of that long laundry list of verses and passages (all of which I read), only one verse addresses the question at hand.

Taking into consideration Paul (nor anyone else of his time) had any knowledge whatsoever of DNA or genetic coding, one could make an argument that the use of the word "natural" refers to a common state among people.

However, science has definitely shown the abundant existence of genetic variances within species -- some of which can be explained, while others cannot.

So that lands us back to square one. While unquestionably God's desire, intent, and plan has always been in favor of heterosexuality, the Bible makes no claim of universal heterosexuality at the genetic level.
