UNC kept it close against Duke in their first game without Lawson. Ellington, Green, and Ginyard are plenty athletic on the wing (although Ellington isn't a good defender yet), and neither UT or Memphis can match Carolina's inside presence.

I actually think losing Lawson for a time did UNC good; early in the season they were painful to watch in a halfcourt offense, where as QT is rather good at getting the ball into the post.

You'll see Duke at least once more and probably twice. Carolina is fairly healthy now, so we'll see.

Tennessee is small, but our bigs run, so we would have advantages in that style of game, which I don't think you could stop. For Memphis, their inside presense depends on whether or not Dorsey and Dorzier come to play. Usually a strength for them defensively, but the smaller Chism and T Smith outhustled, rebounded, and even posted them up repeatedly.

TN would beat the living shit out of the Tarholes. The Holes don't play team defense. The Vols do. Tyler Smith would eat them alive.

Hell, they just beat Memphis without a contribution from Lofton. God forbid he got going.

    Two other points.

Past Duke, is anyone in the ACC worth a damn this year? Clemson, sorta?

And I just looked up NC nonconference schedule. Wow, a signature victory over Kent State.

It's not your fault OSU and Kentucky are in down years, but damn.

ACC in a down year still WAY better than the SEC this year.

Seriously... seriously. You know nothing about UNC basketball apparently. Your discussion is based off past information you've received or message boards or whatever. Outside of Thompson UNC's bigs are KNOWN to run. Including Hansbrough. In a HEALTHY foot race. Smith couldn't keep up with Lawson. UNCs post defense has improved exponentially in the last month if you'll check stats. I understand you're a Vols fan and I'm a UNC fan. I understand you know more about Tenn. than I do. But you don't know SHIT about UNC apparently.

I agree that UNC is better now having lost Lawson for a time. I still don't think QT has gotten very good at some very fundamental levels of being a point guard, though. He is playing better, I'll give him that, but to be a legitimate point guard on a national championship contending team, he'd need to get a LOT better. I am excited to see how good the Heels can now be with Lawson back. Hopefully this week off will give he and Deon Thompson enough time to finish healing up and come back stronger than ever.
Deon hasn't been nearly the 'whirling dervish' that he was in the post before he injured his knee. I'm hoping he'll be a contributor for the home stretch. Alex Stepheson has been playing a LOT better, so if Deon can't go or isn't effective, I hope Roy will have the guts to play Stepheson more.

No, not message boards. I don't frequent basketball message boards much at all, and certainly don't value any information I garner from them. I'll leave that to you, Mr. Inside.

I've only seen NC play twice. The Duke game, and part of the Maryland game. Granted, perhaps not your best showings. I certainly don't think Maryland>NC.

In the Duke game, they were simply faster and more athletic. A less talented Maryland team was able to stay with you on a poor shooting night, in part because of their athletic bigs.
