    I wonder how those nurses and doctors keep from catching the flu, if they do avoid it.

    I used to not ever get sick when I worked in the hospital. I guess you build up a tolerance to it, or either, because handwashing is so ingrained in you, you wash your hands constantly and it really does work.
    I dunno, but it has to be one of the two and sometimes, they do get sick.

    I had been told in the past that influenza was fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing & congestion, weakness and general discomfort (basically upper body respiratory) If you actually where throwing up/nausea/diarrhea that was something else.........

    Which is accurate? Can you be throwing up and technically have influenza?

    Cold

    Symptoms
    Fever - Rare
    Headache - Rare
    General Aches, Pains - Slight
    Fatigue, Weakness - Sometimes
    Extreme Exhaustion - Never
    Stuffy Nose - Common
    Sneezing - Usual
    Sore Throat - Common
    Chest Discomfort, Cough - Mild to moderate; hacking cough

    Treatment
    Antihistamines
    Decongestant
    Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
    medicines

    Prevention
    Wash your hands often
    Avoid close contact with
    anyone with a cold

    Complications
    Sinus congestion
    Middle ear infection
    Asthma

    Fever - Usual; high (100°F to 102°F; occasionally higher, especially in young children); lasts 3 to 4 days
    Headache - Common
    General Aches - often severe
    Fatigue - can last up to 2 to 3 weeks
    Extreme Exhaustion- at the beginning of the illness
    Stuffy Nose - Sometimes
    Sneezing - Sometimes
    Sore Throat Common Sometimes
    Chest Discomfort - can become severe

    Treatment
    Antiviral medicines—
    see your doctor

    Prevention
    Annual vaccination - see your doctor

    Complications

    Bronchitis, pneumonia; can be life threatening
