I generally agree (with what Collin said). It might be interesting to look up how Marshall did when they moved up from I-AA to I-A in the 90s. They were in the same conference as App. State before they moved up.

I am pretty confident in saying that App State would be able to compete in Conference USA and win the Sun Belt

no. Neither. App would finish last in CUSA and at the bottom part of the Sun Belt.

What makes you think that? I'm guessing it's the hate that you have for ASU...and no real explanation as to why. Am I correct?

The SoCon was rated higher than both of those conferences, and yes, we won the SoCon also. There's one explanantion as to why ASU would compete in those "better" conferences, as you say.

I do not hate App at all. I'm actually a fan. But you can't compare these guys to FBS teams. I know they beat Michigan, and it was a great win. But it was a one time miracle thing. The SOCON was a highly ranked conference, but it's not a better conference than any FCS conference. If it is then why did we not have more upsets? Carolina beat Furman, and ECU beat Carolina (a CUSA team).

You're right. It's like comparing App. to Lenoir-Rhyne.

I'm glad to see that you are an APP fan, but what is your reasoning that the SoCon "is not a better conference than any FCS conference"? According to Sagarin and other rating systems, the SoCon was rated the highest FCS conference, and as I stated earlier, rated higher than the ConfUSA, SunBelch and Mid-American, both of which are FBS conferences.

Now I know that ratings do not mean much, if anything at all (just look at the horrid BCS system to prove my point) but to answer your question of upsets, not all teams are on equal footing. As evident with ASU's 3 peat, which has never been done in the modern era in DI football. Furman and GSU have been down the past couple of years, and no one has really challenged ASU in the past few years in the conference.

And before you say that we were beaten by GSU and Wofford last year, you do have to remember that our most talented and skilled positional athlete, QB A. Edwards, was injured. I rest my case with his stats in the playoffs to show you how much of a difference maker he is to the team.

I do believe we could be competitive in some of the FBS conferences, with our only negative factor being that App offers almost 20 less scholarships. That translates into a depth factor for a season which consists of at least 11 or now, 12 games, which is our only hinderence in my opinion.

hahaha. You could compare LR to Hickory High and the Red Tornadoes would give them a hell of a game.
