I don't disagree with that at all. It's also something a heterosexual man has to worry about so it's easier to condemn.

He's not saying that. He's only saying that Moses is probably not the sole author of Genesis.

It does matter when someone says that word by word it's the direct interpretation handed down from God.

I went to a church that had been started by alot of ex jesus movement hippies and they were so prejudice against rich people. They thought they were all greedy and weren't true christians (they would never admit this!!!). Living on or just above the poverty line was considered their type of suffering for/with Jesus (and thus a holy state of living). So it took me awhile to believe that it was okay to have money and now I quess I'm alittle sensitive when people say things that I perceive to mean abundance of possesions = go to hell, or less than a christian.

That's OK. I'm trying not to be judgemental. I just didn't know where that came from based on what I had read.

Errors are one thing. Misinterpretation is another. To eliminate misinterpretation would require enlightenment, yes, but there's also the matter of personal motivations to keep in mind. To force all motivations into the 'right' ones, free will would have to be affected, in addition to pure intellect and understanding.

Edit: Thelt already said this.

I truly understand where you're coming from on that because I have known those type of people.

Good point. I do understand how motivations can color perceptions.

Still, there are parts that are just so far beyond comprehension, even by scholars. It just doesn't fit, in my mind, that he would make sure every word was true, but not put the same effort into making sure the words were clear.
