Ah, I think this will take the discussion in another interesting direction.

This begs the question, "Can you be a Christian & not accept that the bible is COMPLETELY INFALLIBLE? Can you see it as full of divine revelations, but still flawed because of the human input?"

My opinion here doesn't count, but obviously there is disagreement among people who consider themselves Christians on this point.

I'm going to start a new thread re: the "accuracy" of the Bible, so as not to totally hi-jack this thread.

What about the differing punishments for various sins listed in Exodus? Don't they vary in severity based on the sinful act?

That passage definitely singles out sexual immorality as different, but I wouldn't say it necessarily calls it worse than other sins.

I didn't say or mean to imply that God didn't have a hand or that I even believe He didn't have a hand in the writings contained in the Bible. I believe He did. But I also believe that the people who wrote them are fallable, like the rest of us. I have a hard enough time figuring out what God wants me to do, much less write down what I think He would say.

I believe the bible is of more value than any attempt you or I might make to write down what I think God would say. The people who wrote it are fallible for sure but for that time in their lives God worked through them and what they did was perfect.

Then you're not a Christian. You can be like the Mormons and take the Christian religion then change it however you want to and make a new faith of your own, but you can't pick and choose what you like and say that you're still a Christian (note that I am not a Christian either).

And regarding the other discussion, all sins are clearly not equal. Vp is correct that all sins are forgivable, but that does not in any way mean that they're all equal.
