Nice upgrade. Spot Metering and Live View are nice, but not enough to make me get rid of my XTi.

Interesting choice to go to SD cards and a new battery - they're certainly going after the "new to slr" crowd, not their existing users.

Canon has been bad for that in the past with their lens mounts. To be fair though, Nikon has different media cards and batteries for their line of bodies although the lens mount has always been their F mount meaning I can use almost all of their lenses on my D200 and F100 with some trade-offs.

HUH? Canon has been using the EF mounts for a least a dozen years. When they introduced the dSLR's, they came out the the EF-S mounts, but those are in addition to the existing mounts, not instead of.

well, you can't use an EF-S lens on my 5d. they split the lens lineup.

Right, but unless I'm wrong, they didn't drop any lenses to the EF line, just added the EF-S. So it's not like when they added EF-S the people with Film cameras or full frame dSLRs were screwed out of something or had to re-purchase new lenses.

You're right, it is - and it would be cool on FF.

But my point is, it's not like they made a 10-22 EF and stopped making it when the EF-S came out. What I'm trying to say is, Since the EF lenses came out, Canon hasn't produced an SLR that they won't work on.

Back in the old film days they would change mounts with new bodies. Canon standardized in 1987 to their present mount with the EOS line. Nikon has always used the F mount. I've been doing this for thirty-plus years and one reason I went with Nikon and stayed with them.

Nikon has changed their lenses though to get rid of the f stop ring which vexes the shit out of me.
