Do! The coaching I got was absolutely crucial to the success I had. If you eat the right types of things, you can eat much less and not be hungry. The tough part at first will be trying to decide whether you're actually hungry, or you just want to eat more because that's what you're used to. At least, it was for me.

I think it's going to be tougher for you than it was for me, just because of where you live. To decline a glass of sweet tea in public is probably going to earn you some funny looks. Again, it did for me when I was there.

Good for you. That's a tough way to go, but if it works for you (and it looks like it does), go with it for as long as you need to. The good news is, you probably won't need to very long. With the success you've had already, you've got a lot of positive momentum going.

Did you have any medication to help suppress your appetite? I was on phenterimine one time and it helped but made me jittery. My problem is that I will plan out my day and eat the right amount of food for breakfast and lunch but by dinner I am starved and the "right" amount of food will not fill me up. I have tried waiting twenty minutes to see if my hunger goes away but it does not. I understand it takes will power and is not going to be easy but walking around starving all the time is not really viable. Even if you have will power you can only do that so long...

No. All I had was the powdered shakes they gave me for meal replacements, twice a day at first, then once a day. I'm fairly certain phenterimine is a stimulant, designed to speed up a person's metabolism.

I know what you mean. Here's a couple of tips that worked for me, and I hope will work for you.

    1) Try to make lean meats, complex carbs, and fresh or frozen vegetables the bulk of your diet. You can pretty much eat your fill of vegetables and grilled fish, chicken, or turkey. Grilled beef is okay in smaller portions once in a while, but avoid regular indulgence of things like pot roast and hamburger. Protein is good for appetite control because it takes more time and energy for the body to digest. Generally speaking, the more protein you take in when you eat, the less hungry you'll be between meals.

    2) Don't be afraid to have a sensible snack between meals if you're getting too hungry. A lot of snack foods are coming out now with 100 calorie snack packs. Those things were a HUGE help to me, especially when I first got started. Again, make smart choices here. Whole grain wheat thins are going to be a better option for you than chocolate chip cookies. Even though the calories are the same, the complex carbs and higher protein content in wheat thins will control your appetite better than high sugar snacks.

    3) Eat heavier earlier. If the portions you've been trying aren't enough to sustain you at a level you can live with, increase your portion size, but do it at breakfast and lunch, not dinner. Eating smart all day long and making up for lost time at dinner will undo all the effort you put in during the day. When you sleep, your body functions at minimal energy consumption, and that includes your digestive system. Whatever the body doesn't burn up, it stores as fat.

    I hope that helps. :smart:

Thanks for the tips. The more I study on it and think back about the things I have done in the past that worked, at least to some degree, I think the biggest problem is starchy foods. I think that is part of what you are saying too. Eat lots of fiber and lean meat but stay off the fat and carbs.

The real challenge seems to be finding enough good food to eat not necessarily cutting out all the bad food. If you are full on good stuff you will not want bad stuff as much.

Exactly! And yeah, it can take a while to find stuff that's good for you. Not only that, it tends to be more expensive, too. :frown:

All I can tell you on that is that it's worth it.

I lost almost all of my extra weight several years ago on Weight Watchers. The key thing I remember from that is how important it was to eat enough of the stuff you could have on the diet. If you did not eat enough you did not lose weight.

That needs to be my next step, figure out what I can eat and then make sure I have plenty of it around the house.
