Robert Jordan's: A Memory of Light.........

I, too, am waiting on the 5th installment from Martin.

I'm currently wrapping up the 3rd book in Jordan's series...you saying the series is going to turn to shit?

 

I don't think that is possible. However, I do think it is possible that he could croak in the next 10 years before he is finished with the series. Hope not.

One of the reasons his books are so good is that he takes his time to get them where he wants them and that takes years in some instances.

 

I'm not worried about the Martin series' quality...

I'm reading WoT by Robert Jordan while I wait for Book 5 from Martin. Collin said WoT turns into a soap opera.

 

One of the reasons I never started this series is because EVERYONE complains about the dropoff in quality.

I also wish I had never started the Sword of Truth series. I can't even bring myself to buy the last one and finish it.

 

The first 5 of Jordan are fantastic. 6 drops off a bit, and it just gets brutal after that... I started a note card where I kept score for how often some damn Aes Sedia bitch smoothed her skirts. I covered one side quickly.

You could also fill up a page just listing dangling plot threads. It was like he was forbidden by his publisher to tie anything up.

 

I'd say it drops off pretty sharply after the fourth book.

I sat down and read the first 10 books one week over summer when I was in school. They got harder and harder to read.

 

Well, it's still good at this point. Guess I'll see what happens.

 

I couldn't even get through the first one of that series, I got about halfway to three quarters and quit. Not very good.

 

I read the first several books in the WOT series but the last one I bought I could not get through. I skipped chapters to only follow the characters I still semi cared about. I have not gotten the last couple of books.

 

I thought that the last two got back on track, while the magic was lost and I got tired of all the knuckling of foreheads and smoothing of skirts, when the last one comes out I definitely want to see how it ends.
