Not all women are skinny models. I have so many close friends who are so self-conscious about the shape of their bodies. And it’s so disheartening to see all these skinny model-types on tv and makeover shows where big people get some sort of surgery done for the sake of beauty. They need to come out with shows or movies with real people. I really look up to Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray and Jennifer Hudson from DreamGirls...

is there anyone you look up to??

If someone has Nikki Blonskys body type, they should be self conscious. I don't understand why being fat makes one a role model.

Agree. Just googled her. You think of her as a role model? She's dangerously obese.

Not allowing her weight to keep her from doing something productive with her life is worthy of role model status, at least to some degree.

The goal should be to stay healthy and fit. That does not always mean thin. Those skinny models where you can count every rib they have are not fit or healthy either. In fact some of them are in worse health than a lot of fat people.

Being healthy is the most important, but it is really inspiring to a lot of women who are self-conscious about themselves to see a woman who is normal and just like them doing something that they typically couldn't do.

Of all the famous chicks I can think of, I like Tyra Banks's body the best. She's amazon-esque tall, which I'm extremely jealous of... but she's not skinny, nor overweight. She's just normal. And I'm sure she works hard to maintain it.

I totally agree. A 250 lb. woman can be pretty, but she's not healthy. And not being healthy is a turn-off for most people, regardless of gender.
