I went back to Direct a little over a year ago, but I don't remember what (if any) contract I'm under with them. I'll have to find out.

Hmmm, sucks that Direct won't cut a deal on it. HD hasn't been that big a deal to me in the past since the HD channels were somewhat limited, but now that the list is growing significantly, I'd kinda like to have it even though I really don't watch a ton of TV. Regardless, when I do finally get one of the HD/DVR receivers, it's gonna be because I'm getting a good deal on it.

I couldn't believe you pay $300 to LEASE the box, and STILL have to pay the dvr fee on top of that. Absolute robbery.

Whatever you get, be it LCD or Plasma, you are pretty much going to enjoy it unless you are an extreme techie. I finally got my LCD up and running this weekend and although, I don't have digital cable yet, the PBS station is coming through in digital somehow. I watched a show about two lions last night for two hours and could not turn the channel. The picture was amazing.

Both of those things are true and deserve a mention in the discussion.

CRTs are by far the best gaming hdtv, as well.

    MPEG2 needs to die.
