Sedrick Ellis

I don't want to see the Panthers investing heavily in the FA market. They need to get better through the draft. DE is the most glaring need, then probably O-line. Otherwise, they'd be wll served to pick up some role players at DT and DE (pass rushers) and a H-back type guy.

The only FA I'd be looking for is a #2 WR, which obviously will cost a little something.

Completely agree. We need both sides of the line, especially D.

 

Our young WRs aren't any good, and don't seem to have much upside (to me). I saw a remark that USC's big WRs basically run down the field, and upjump DBs for the ball. Doesnt work in the pros. Is there much hope Jarrett will ever learn to run a route? Did Mike Williams?


Robinson has potential, but he's a little guy. We need someone who can play with Smith.

Agree we need to get some beef wherever we can find it, so BBA. Wouldn't kill me if we did that three or four times in the draft and if it turns out that Ellis is that, take him. Although I believe I'd prefer to trade down to the late teens early twenties if we could still get a good OT.

WR in the draft isn't the way to go for 2008 production, IMO.

I'm not ready to label Jarrett one way or the other, yet. I didn't have the high expectations some did (possibly including the coaching staff, which baffled me).

 

Then you're not going to be especially happy with the next crop either. Not that they're bad, but young WRs take time. I do think the guys we have, have upside.

At any rate, throwing more youth on that pile just doesn't make sense to me. We have the youth, and whether they do or don't develop, I think they should do a little more with a guy who plays now.



Big ups to stratocatter for the 'best beef available' acronym. That's awesome and refreshing. That's the reason I tried, in vain, to get people talking about Ellis, because whether he's considered an option right now, doesn't mean he will go ahead of us.

Mag, if Jarrett really can run routes and can learn the O, then I'm more agreeable. Not getting off a jam is a common rookie problem.
