I was listening to ESPN radio and Mel "The Hair" Kiper was saying Miami is looking to trade out of the #1 because Parcells 1) doesn't want McFadden 2) won't be too greedy to trade out of the top spot. He wants either UVA DE Long or the LSU DT. Parcells is believed to only hope for extra picks to drop down to 3 or 4.

Oh and Atlanta is looking to offer Cleveland one of it's 2nd round selections for Derek Anderson and is keeping it's fingers crossed that McFadden drops to them at 3 or 4 depending on the coin flip

I heard that.. They were just speculating. They didn't say they knew what he really thought. Plus, Ireland is the GM, not Parcells.

Ireland may be the "GM" but Parcells is running the show.

They have Brown, so they don't need McFadden. I'm really hoping that they will trade to someone who'll take McFadden, because I can stomach NE having another elite defensive lineman, but not an elite back. My true hope is that they take Jake Long, and he busts.

And, no matter how much they sell it, Parcells will have say in that draft pick. He's clashed with anyone who got in his way as a coach about his picks/personnel, and even if he stays out of the war room as a symbolic gesture toward his GM, they'll already know days before what to do in every scenario if they don't keep the #1.

If that were the case I don't see why he would hire a bright younger guy who he likes. He would just do it himself and not restrict one of his guys.

I think his job is just to use his connections to assemble a front office and coaching staff. He said he wouldn't be doing the gm's job. I bet he is done there in two years.

So in two years Ireland will get to take the training wheels off.

it's a pay raise and promotion for Ireland, and he gets more time to show him the ropes before he bolts in a year or two.
