Good lord. The compression artifacts are from Time Warner Cable's compression of the signal, not because of the TV.

    You are beyond stupid.

i'll just throw my 2 cents in here....

movies are shot at 24 fps. it would be really silly to upconvert them to 30 or 60 on a dvd because you'd simply be duplicating information which is sort of counter to the whole point of digital tv (compression and variable bandwidths).

and 24fps isn't going anywhere. people associate 24fps with movies. i don't know if it's still going on today, but a while ago there was this movement to mimic 24fps when shooting video. it looked lousy, but the goal was to make a cheap tv show look like an expensive movie.

sports, on the other hand, are way more dependent on high frame rates. this is probably why espn went with 720p instead of 1080i. you lose a bit of spacial rez, but gain a bit of temporal rez.

i kinda doubt there'll be any major shift in hd signals. sure, there might be tvs that can do 1080p or 2160i/p or whatever, but the fact is -- consumers want quantity of quality. this is why hd has always struck me as an odd mandate. as soon as things started going digital, signal quality went into the toilet so they could throw 5 channels into the same bandwidth a single channel used to take. and people liked having the 5 channels. they want the choice. choice sells more than picture quality. if they get the bandwidth to start pumping out uncompressed 1080/60p then they'd make the decision to pump out 5 compressed 1080/60p signals instead - and they'd make more money doing it. but i guess that's better than 25 sd channels... maybe...

Yeah, nascar looks amazing on my tv. I find that night football games look better than daytime games, I'm not sure if it's because of the lighting or not but nighttime races shine.

Hard Harry, I understand TWC has compression, they broadcast in MPEG2. But I assure you, it looks a lot worse on your display than it does on mine. The crowd is still very clear even on kickoffs on my tv.

And you're a fuckhead and a fucking moron. Go fuck yourself, douchebag.

Anyway, Superfluous Nut is right, it seems that Blu and HD-DVD should be able to handle MPEG4 compressed 1080p60 video. So, looks like there's no current need for OMGSUPERBLU.

PS - no, your shitty 768p does not look better than my Regza 1080p. This froma guy who blames compression artifacts, repeatedly on the TV. Newsflash dickhead, I didnt have any artifacts at all last season. It looked incredible on the same TV.

    Right back at you.

    Shitty lol

It looked amazing on my tv too, glad yours is working out for you.

You're on my ignore list, so don't bother with me anymore. You can't have a discussion without namecalling, so we're done.

I miss CRT's. I have a new lcd in my edit suite to replace my old CRT monitor. It looks like shit comparatively.

    I also miss vinyl records.
