Motion blur, poor black, overly bright, and unforgiving viewing angles are my problem with LCD units.

    They weigh less, though.

I honestly don't see the love for LCD. Other than being small and lightweight, I've never thought the picture was that great. The viewing angle thing chaffes my ass. You can sit on different sopts on a couch and have a different picture. Standing or sitting - different picture. This problem alone makes me wonder why LCD is considered a better 'everyday' TV.

You have your backlight up too high then, or the stupid store display does (typical). Turn it down and the picture evens out. Except at nearly perpindicular angles, and I'm talking about standing beside the TV, my picture looks great/same from every angle.

I'm not picking on meat, but it doesn't suprise me to see the fanboys post on here about "anti-glare coatings" and other marketing spin for each tech.

Again, it's not about what's a better technology, because better is purely subjective. It's about what works best for your viewing environment and needs. And I standby what I've said. I've now installed 6 of these things (for friends), and own 2 myself. I feel like I'm talking from experience.

my new Samsung looks the same from all angles, plus it's on a swivel stand but the LCD in the bedroom isn't... but I only look at that one from one angle anyway, so it works for me

I got a 52" Sony Bravia a few months ago. When I got it, I didn't have an HD package from my provider and I thought thw picture was not good. It looked worse than my old tube TV. It had some of the same problems meat describes. I read an article about backlighting and settings, set it up like advised, got HD and watched football. I then understood that the reason it seemed that way is because my TV, prior to HD, was crisper than my signal and showed all the flaws.
Since I made those changesand got HD, it's awesome!

I am finally in the market for one (either). I was just going to go to the store and buy one becuase I will get to into the selection process when it really doesn't matter that much.

I fucked up and am thinking about it too much. I'm probably going to get the Toshiba 42" LCD 1080 that is on sale at Circuit City if it's still on sale this weekend.

Definitely a good idea. Thinking about all the ins and outs of the two when it doesn't really make a whole lot of difference is kinda pointless. Once I came to that conclusion, it was a lot easier process.
