Hell yeah! But you gotta use it sparingly.

Can't be dependent on it. It must be used judiciously.

The Big Ten DOES suck. They all pad thier records with MAC schools and IAA opponents then piss and moan they can't recruit...fucking play somebody worth playing and recruits will want a piece of that.

A local Hawkeye Homer radio show here was going on and on about how Iowa shold dump Iowa State from thier schedule and that thier RPI was never good enough because of Iowa State...yet when I called and pointed out the obvious benefit of the in-state rivalry and the disadvantages that come from the cupcake MAC wins, they ignored it. Although they did throw in the excuse that Missouri backed out of a home and home agreement this year that forced them to add Northern Illinois...who almost beat them.
Plus, it would help if they'd actually beat Iowa State, wouldn't it?
OSU and Michigan generally schedule one tough non-conference game and schools like Northwestern, Michigan State and Purdue generally have one as well.

I wouldn't dump the MAC schools all together, play one a year...sure, but don't load up with 2-3 of them.
All the Big Ten schools shoudl play a 12 game schedule anyway since they don't have a championship. Iowa should keep Iowa State and a MAC school, but play 2 opponents from the PAC 10/Big 12/SEC/ACC/Big East...and I'd like to see them move the Iowa State game towards the end of the season so that it may actually mean something at the time.
Living in Iowa and listening to how irrational Iowa fans are is what made me a Penn State fan in the first place, that and Jo-Pa. Granted PSU is in the Big Ten, but all Big Ten fans are just as irrational when it comes to the discussion of who the better conference is...the 80's were over a long time ago, but there are alot of 40-something mullets still floating around.

Purdue barely got by Central Michigan, twice. And Iowa actually lost to a MAC team, as you said. That's why they aren't even bowling.

Nah, we got 9 wins without the jacket. And besides, if we started winning every game we played, I wouldn't know how to handle the success. I'd be a wreck.

Yeah, Iowa lost to Western Michigan as I predicted they would and almost got punched in the face by my best friend for saying so...he's one of those irrational Iowa Fans and I tend to push his buttons for fun. He even gave me his tickets for that game, I was there...highlight of the day was the taco and jalapeno flavored brats and hot chocolate & schnapps consumed while tailgating.
Western Michigan was 2 games away from going bowling and was close to getting it done (lost to Central Michigan 34-31 in OT and would have won had thier stud WR not gotten kicked out in the first qtr, lost to Ball State 27-23 and lost to Akron 39-38). They had a HUGE O-line!
In reality, Iowa shouldn't have won a game and at 6-6 they were Bowl eligible...which is bullshit. They were beyond terrible, QB play was just atrocious and WR's couldn't catch when Christensen did accidently throw a good ball.
12 players were arrested this year, that kind of shit rarely happened under Hayden Fy. They are having trouble locking up 2 star recruits at this point, although Carr's retirement did get a 4 or 5 star QB recruit to back out at Michign and commit to Iowa. They have nothing coming back at RB though, it's going to be fun giving my buddy shit next year.
