Interesting that they would do moves like these. I am not sure what they are up to but seems like there would be some reason for this.

What is there to complain about? We've needed a kicker who can consistently kick the ball in the endzone for a couple of years now, and there is absolutely no harm at all in taking a look at another WR...if he isn't good enough to make the team, what have they lost?

BTW, it amazes me how fast Panther fans have turned on Peppers. For cryin out loud...it's one bad season. He'll be back.

improve kickoffs for a game, get a free game tryout of a guy who can kick without rocking the boat, carry him into next season's camp. Don't see the problem here.

But if he returns to being dominant the money won't hurt so badly. Gross isn't bad, but I'd like to see him better for what he'll probably make. He's not been near the player Pep has - ever. So it's not like we have 52 bargain basement guys and Pep breaking the bank. For that matter, Smitty hasn't been a league leader either this season and yeah I know he hasn't been getting thrown to much either. Just saying I could argue dump Smitty and Peppers and while we're at it, Jake too. Those three should save something.

Only Smitty rarely gets handled one on one, unlike Julius, and we know the reason for his lack of production has little to nothing to do with him. If all we had to go on was this season we'd be calling Pep a bust. The $64k question is will it keep happening or does he play like he has before. IF there's something wrong with him and the team knows what it is, I'd like to believe they'll know what to do.

I've long been a proponent of "buying low" by signing guys long-term when they're coming off of disappointing seasons, but that only makes sense if they're actually willing to give something of a discount. So if Peppers takes a little less money than Freeney, that would be cool by me. He didn't suddenly lose his talent, although I'm mystified as to why he was so ineffective this year. Through the first eight games of last season he was the best defensive player in the league, and I'd be glad to gamble that he'll get there again.

You're right about that and the drop off in performance began in the latter half of last season and carried over to all of 2007. I'm a little leary of investing big bucks in him atm (especially with that quote from him about low numbers not affecting his value).
