I need some timeline help. When will we know for sure...

... if hurney / fox / other staff are staying or going?
... which players will get restructured?
... which players will be cut?
... if we have a prayer in '08.

    Ahhhh, Patience, grasshopper.
Long term process on all of the above. ( Although I think Fox saved his arse at the Seattle game).

Dumb question, I know... but let's assume Fox & Hurney are staying... Will there be a definitive statement to that effect, or will we just assume that if they're not fired by this time next week that they're going to be around next season?

Restructures will be interesting to see. I can't see any one getting a simple restructure (salary to bonus while playing for the minimum next year) because of both who the players are and the number of years left on their contracts. This is where we are prior to cuts being made. Of the 35 guys who'll be left on the roster, 19 will be playing for the minimum next year. Two, Harris and Kyle, are in the last year of their deals along with five others-Carr, Foster, Peppers, Gamble, and Kasay. Harris and Gamble probably would see their cap numbers rise rather than fall. Carr is likely to be cut, Foster is debatable as to if he's worth extending to create room, Kasay may be out the door, and we can agree on Peppers creating room with an extention.

Of the remaining 12, Goings is already at the minimum in salary next year and has two years remaining on his deal. Baker has the most years remaining on his deal with 5, but dropping him from 1 million to 730K then spreading the bonus over the next five years is not worth the effort. It might allow us to sign an undrafted rookie, but that's about it. Of the remaining 10, Delhomme, Smith, Wahle, Bridges, Jenkins and Davis all have two years remaining. Hartwig, Kemoeatu, Morgan, and Lucas all have three years remaining. So now the question is who gets an extention in order to help get some cap room? Who's worth it and who isn't?

Three of the ten are already being mentioned as cap cuts (Wahle, Morgan, and Kemoeatu are the most mentioned) so it's safe to assume they won't be looked at. Davis's cap number can only go up, but he should be extended. Smith woulld be the only other guy I'd look at honestly. Delhomme is a risk coming off his surgery and if Moore develops may not be needed past the next two years. Jenkins wants out so he's not a candidate. Bridges isn't worth the added investment. That leaves you with Hartwig and Lucas. I can't see adding to Lucas's 8.8 in prorated bonus and Hartwig is fast becoming the Morgan of the offense with two injuries in two years.
