SOunds like bullshit to me. It's all I hear / read in the media, and I don't buy it.

EG: Coughlin gets canned. Acorsi calls Fox. Acorsi is not gonna hire Hurney, too.

If they go as a package, they ain't gonna get a new job as a package.

That said - we have a thread about replacing Fox - who would be available to replace Hurney?

Yeah, I don't get it. They had never worked together before. Are they "partners"?

Yeah I agree. That list is crazy! Rutherford (Canes) is a helluva lot better and more respected in the NHL than Hurney is in the NFL.

I don't think that's supposed to be taken as "they're a package deal for other teams." I don't even necessarily take them as a package together here, but I think the personnel end of things are such that there's enough ambiguity as to where the power lies.

I do have to wonder if our assistants have a specific say about our draft personnel. Scouts, they watch games in person and on tape all year. Scouts, they see the bowls, then their work is offseason. It's easy to watch a VT game, a USC game, and pick out the guys you see on tape that stand out.

supposedly, there was a relationship there before, and Hurney was one of the ones recommending Fox. Granted Rooney would have been the heavier weighted recommendation.

At any rate, it would be a big fuckup if people got their Christmas wishes, and that ended up meaning Marty Hurney picks the new coach. Plus, for you Cowher Sweepstakes fans, besides the $10 mil pricetag, don't forget we took a while to act on who we were going to hire. Fox was, what, the third interview guy? I forget if we interviewed Marvin Lewis or not, so that would be 4. People were having a fucking caniption watching Spurrier get hired elsewhere.

Best option is to keep Fox and bring in a GM. Keep Hurney on the team if you want but add a guy who is first and foremost a talent evaluator.

Fox, I don't think, is the problem. Has he had his moments this year, sure. Fox doesn't control the injuries. Talent level for the backups, as we have clearly seen this season is lacking.

    See ya Hurney.

If Hurney is the cap guy, who do you think is the personnel guy?
