So if Jesus were to return today, God would cease to exist?

 

That is going to put quite a new spin on much of science. Can you hold an atom or a star?

let's say a being shows up and says he's jesus returned. how do you verify he's telling the truth?

 

you're making too much of my statement. i said it's unfair to compare the two as tho they're equals, not that you had to be able to hold something in order for science to be accurate.

it's the difference between what forces affect things at the edge of the universe or at the sub-atomic level vs what force affect things on the human scale. it's gross observation vs ridiculously intricate mathematical models. the level of precision is simply different for the two.

 

a scientific test is one that is repeatable and predictable. if god was repeatable and predictable, he would be better called a law of nature.

take your gravity example. if god was in charge of making everything move by his sheer power of will, how could you prove that? now you find that things in certain areas don't behave how you expected, do you then say that it's evidence that god is moving everything or do you say that it's evidence that we simply don't fully understand the nature of the physical world well enough to describe gravity in full?

 

That's not a scientific test for God, it's a scientific test of what God can do. And I think that I have been quite clear in saying that I believe God lets things work in their natural state, he doesn't have a bunch of levers and knobs he twists to make things happen.

 

Ok, VP, simple question with no word games. Why do you believe in God?
